NSE Adds 45 New Stocks to F&O Segment
On November 13, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) announced the inclusion of 45 additional stocks for futures and options (F&O) contracts, set to commence on Friday, November 29, 2024. The last time new stocks were added to the derivatives segment was in January 2022.
This list includes well-known names such as Jio Financial Services, Avenue Supermarts (DMart), Adani Energy Solutions and Adani Green Energy, and household names like Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), Zomato, Nykaa, Paytm, and YES Bank. The addition of these prominent stocks is expected to increase liquidity in the market, thereby attracting a broader range of investors.
The market lot sizes, strike price ranges, and quantity freeze limits for these stocks will be shared in a separate circular on November 28, 2024.

The addition of these stocks raises the total number of securities available for F&O trading on NSE to 178.
The market regulator, Sebi, approved new rules for selecting F&O stocks at its June meeting, and they issued a detailed circular on August 30. The last time they updated these rules was in 2018, and no new stocks have been added to the derivatives segment since January 2022.
Interestingly, this list also includes new-age companies that were listed in the past two-years. The inclusion of these new names is likely to drive investor interest, as F&O participation typically boosts stock liquidity, drawing both retail and institutional investors. This could pave the way for some of these stocks to eventually be added to major indices like the Nifty 50, as only F&O-eligible stocks qualify for benchmark inclusion.
Some of the stocks already witnessed a jump in their prices after the announcement. Jio Financial Services led the way, with a 5.78% gain to reach Rs 316.70. One 97 Communications, the parent company of Paytm, saw an increase of 4.26% to Rs 785.35, while Zomato’s share price rose by 4% to Rs 269 after the announcement of its inclusion.
The exchange has confirmed that more information on the market lot sizes, strike price ranges, and other trading specifics will be released in an official circular on November 28, just ahead of the F&O trading commencement on November 29.
