EV giant finds high costs too steep a hill to climb

You would expect that in periods of high crude oil prices, green industry companies like electric vehicle manufacturers would do well, right? Well, apparently, high costs of raw materials, commodities, logistics and warranty costs were a big shocker for Tesla, arguably the biggest electric car manufacturer.

As per the results posted by Tesla, its net income had dropped 24%, free cash flows dropped 84% and net cash from operating activities dropped 37% on a YoY basis in the January-March quarter. As a result, the EV manufacturer saw its share price fall by 11.4% in the last week.

As we go deeper into the ultimate litmus test for companies, i.e. the result season, where do you think other companies would end up?

Indian benchmarks ended the day flat as advances in IT and consumer goods stocks were offset by larger declines in realty, metals, and automobile stocks.

Nifty ended 204 points down at the 17,624 level. Sensex was down by 1.28% and stood at 59,655 and Nifty Bank was down by 0.03% at 42,118.

The market is expected to react positively to strong numbers of Reliance and ICICI Bank. We are advising investors to add KRBL at current levels.

In the last week, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) made net investments of ₹2,612 crore in the Indian markets. On the other hand, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) made net investments worth ₹3,026 crore. In the same period, yields on India’s 10-year bonds fell from 7.229% to 7.185%.

This week, the January-March quarter results seemed to be the major factor affecting major broad market indices abroad. The Nasdaq Composite fell by 0.3%, the S&P 500 fell by 0.09% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 0.36%. However, this week, CBOE Volatility Index (CVIX), the fear gauge for American markets, fell to the lowest level since late 2021.

📈Market Outlook

–Mr. Ratnesh Goyal, Senior Research Analyst, Arihant Capital.

Nifty

If we look at the daily chart of Nifty, we see a series of “Narrow” range body formations. On the weekly chart, we see that Nifty is still holding the upper line of the falling channel.

If we analyze both charts, it indicates that now we can see some consolidation and some supply from the higher levels.

If Nifty starts trading above the 17,700 level, then it can touch the 17,850-18,000 level. On the downside, support is 17,550, and if it starts to trade below then it can test the level of 17,350 and 17,200 levels.

Bank Nifty

If we look at the daily chart of Bank Nifty, we see a series of “Narrow” range body formations. On the weekly chart, we see it is still trading above its short-term moving averages.

If we analyze both charts it indicates that bank nifty is still looking stronger than Nifty.

In the coming week if it trades above 42,350 then it can touch 42,500 and 42,650 levels. However, downside support comes at 42,050, and below that, we can see 41,850 and 41,700 levels.
